Sitio Maranhão
Sítio Maranhão is a postcard farm set in the gentle, rolling hills of Minas Gerias. The Betti family are made up of brothers Josiel and Jeferson, together with their wives Jessica and Cleissimara.
On the farm the brothers take the harvest and section of the coffee at peak maturity and Jessica and Cliessinmara are responsible for the post-harvest. Meticulous attention to detail at both of these stages ensure consistently high quality coffee across the entire harvest. This is of the upmost importance when working with coffee at small scale like they do at Sítio Maranhão.

Yellow Catuai
Natural
Minas Gerais
Our selection from Sítio Maranhão is this naturally processed Yellow Catuai that has undergone an extended fermentation before sun drying. The coffee is hand picked and a short tractor ride delivers the coffee cherries to the fermentation tanks to rest for 72 hours before making their way to the patio by the farm house where there are laid to dry in the sun. This process takes several weeks and requires careful monitoring to ensure that the beans are dried evenly and the correct humidity has been achieved. The Yellow Catuai variety of coffee is known for its sweet and acidic flavour, being yellow in colour, as the name suggests, it absorbs less sunlight than the red fruiting varietal leading to a slower maturation and a more complex cup. The family have been looking at ways to increase the value of the harvest and with the rise in popularity of additional fermentation coffee they have been experimenting of the past few years in small scale. After some encouraging results on the cupping table, this is the first time this coffee has been available in any volume.
With an annual production of 300 bags, Sítio Maranhão is a very small coffee farm. Contrary to popular belief, the vast amount of coffee produced in Minas Gerias comes from small, family managed farms just like Maranhão. The Betti Family's dedication to quality and sustainability has made them a well-respected and sought-after producer. Their passion for coffee shines through, and their commitment to the environment and their community has made them a valuable contributor to the local region.
